October 27
Intro:
I go to read my mail (work) by my bike. It’s about 10km from my house. There is 2 to 3 police station on my way to my office.
Day 1: Oct 22 – Saturday
I got up early and left home at 7:45am to attend a briefing on Linux migration and software development in Taj (they served lunch after thatJ). All the CORPORATION workers were out patching the small (actually, big) holes on the road.
Day 2: Oct 23 – Sunday
I had a ticket for the movie The Skeleton Key for the 1:15pm. I was running (driving) late for the show (I don’t remember doing this blunder ever), so I was hurrying past the CORPORATION workers who was helping me to keep the speed (my bike doesn’t go beyond 35kmph) by removing the speed breakers.
Day 3: Oct 24 – Monday
On my way to office I saw all the police station was glowing in serial lights (even though it was a bright day), even though it rained on Sunday the streets were clean and the water that was logged was removed with the help of the pumping machine by the CORPORATION workers.
Day 4: Oct 25 – Tuesday
It rained so badly that I had to take the MTC buses for checking mail (office).
Day 5: Oct 26 – Wednesday
It was drizzling in the morning. The rain started to pour in the middle of the day and continued till the night.
Day 6: Oct 27 – Thursday
When I woke up at 6:30am to buy The Hindu daily (I see only picturesJ) it wasn’t available, the water in the road was knee deep (it a routine). At 6:45am the Electricity was switched off. My grandmother, uncles, aunty and their child was in our house (the water did not come to our house), as water has already entered their house. At 4:30pm the water was almost 6 feet I could see a man walking with only his neck out. The rain continued all day and did not stop till we went to sleep.
Day 7: Oct 28 – Friday
The sun was out shining (that’s Chennai friends). At 9:30am I along with my uncle went out to buy some milk and some necessary things for the family; the water was up to my chest for about 2 km were we found a shop open with a big Q.
Day 8: Oct 29 – Saturday
The sun was still shining and the water level was back to normal (knee deepJ). The water was draining out, so every body (women) around was cleaning their houses and searching for things that was washed away in the water. The rest (men) was cleaning their bikes as it had a deep bath for 2 days.
Day 9: Oct 30 – Sunday
There was no more water in the road and we had electricity at 11:30am.
If you would have read carefully the ITALIC CAPITAL letter was missing for six days. I don’t blame them because they might also have their home floating.
But why doesn’t the government learn from their mistakes. If the CORPORATION workers can be made to work even on Saturday and Sunday for hours together for the arrival of the CHIEF MINISTER for a function which lasts for few minutes (opening new police stations) why don’t they spend some months for the betterment of he people who has put them there.
They lay speed breakers saying to control the speed but remove them so that the CHIEF MINISTER can have a smooth ride. I am not even against the CHIEF MINISTER because this is happening for whom so ever come to power.
To have a better tomorrow the one we can trust is the GOVERNMENT OFFICERS will they be trust worthy? Well only time can tell so wait until it rains again 2014.
Trivia: This is my second experience of a flood the first was in 1996 and now 2005.
